IOWA FALLS – Tim Broer of Iowa Falls passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025.

Memorial services will be Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa Falls.

Timothy Broer was born to Martin and Jeanette Broer on Aug. 30, 1951. He grew up on a family farm south of Iowa Falls. He attended Ellsworth Community College and later transferred to Iowa State University (ISU) to complete a bachelor’s degree in Farm Operations. He had many treasured memories during his time at ISU. Following his collegiate graduation, Tim wanted to serve his country in a peaceful way and joined the United States Peace Corps. Tim was stationed in Nepal for two years, where he helped the Nepali people to learn and adopt modern swine husbandry techniques. This was a life-changing experience for Tim and shaped many of his personal beliefs and life philosophies for the rest of his lifetime.

Tim met Catherine Winfrey at a Peace Corps reunion gathering in Ames, Iowa. They were married on Jan. 17, 1981. They had two children together, Karl and Anna, and together they managed and operated a family farm raising corn, soybeans, pigs, and various other hobby animals and plants, often of diverse and heirloom varieties. Tim especially loved growing watermelons and popcorn.

In his later years, Tim found much meaning in volunteering with a variety of projects and organizations in the Iowa Falls area. This included his church, the Hardin County Health Board, the Iowa Falls Community Garden, and most recently, the Iowa Falls Trees Forever organization. Working in coordination with others, Tim planted many new trees in and around Iowa Falls and monitored their critical early development.

Tim had three grandchildren. He loved them most of all and was a constant presence in their lives. He enjoyed going on all sorts of adventures with them, making wooden toys for them, and watching them discover their own personalities and interests. He always had time for them.

Tim was a knowledgeable farmer, a beloved father and grandfather, and a trusted friend to many. Tim loved a good latte, native prairie flowers, arboriculture, and all aspects of nature. He was a passionate conservationist and practiced responsible farming in a serious and conscientious way. He took pride in his personal workmanship and everything else that he did. Everyone who knew him could depend on him. He was caring, kind, and always ready to help both friends and strangers in a quiet and humble way.

Tim leaves behind many who will miss him dearly, especially his children and grandchildren: Karl Broer, Ryan and Anna Broer Weis, Olive, Sid, and Pearl Weis.

Tim decided to donate his body to the University of Iowa for medical education and research. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following:
