IOWA FALLS – Doris Foster, age 105, long-time Iowa Falls resident, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Hansen Family Hospital. Arrangements are pending at this time. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is caring for Doris and her family.
Doris Ruth (Schachterle) Foster was born on May 22, 1919 to William and Lylian (Whiteside) Schachterle in Ackley, Iowa. Doris graduated from Iowa Falls High School class of 1937. She continued her studies at Ellsworth Community College, Iowa State University from 1938-1941 followed by graduate work at the University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa. Doris was a teacher of home economics and science for 25 years.
On June 22, 1943 Doris was united in marriage to Edward Foster in Iowa Falls, Iowa. To this union one son was born.
Doris was a member of the North Iowa Hospice, Mother’s Club, Iowa Falls Retired Teachers and First Congregational United Church of Christ. She enjoyed traveling and spent numerous winters in Arizona where she owned a home until 2003. Most of all the joy she derived from friendships she established in her 105 years of living in Iowa.
Doris Foster is survived by her son, Edward and his wife Susan Hanson Foster of Vail, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Foster in 1985 and by her sister, Mary M. Fuller.
