July 11, 1951 – 12 Oct 2024

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Rex Lynn King passed from this life to his eternal one on October 12, 2024 surrounded by loved ones in Loveland, Colorado.

Rex was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and spent his formative years playing on the Iowa River and learning the value of hard work at his parents’ plant nursery.

Rex came to northern Colorado for college and stayed to raise a family. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a business degree and his career spanned many decades in the auto business. Compact Rent-a-Car was Rex’s first franchise; later he was a Dollar Rent-a-Car franchisee in multiple states. His career culminated as owner of multi-brand car dealerships in Greeley, Loveland and Longmont, Colorado. Rex served as President of the Dollar Rent-a-Car Dealer Advisory Board and was a GM Mark of Excellence dealer.

You could often find Rex on the golf course, playing a round of nine or 18 with his wife, Pam, his children or friends. Summer Sundays were spent on his pontoon and Sea Ray boats at the lake. He taught his grandkids how to drive the boat and he found calm waters for them to jump in for a swim. Rex had a love of travel that was inspiring – he was a witness to sites and culture, he tasted cuisine and wine the world over – and he set foot on his seventh continent in November of last year. Rex was always quick to count his blessings saying “it’s like getting shot with golden BBs.”

Through and through, Rex was a family man, a true patriarch who supported and encouraged the dreams of kin. His dry sense of humor and fondness for family showed up in the nicknames he had for each of his kids. His children, in-turn, affectionately called Rex and Pam “the love birds.” Rex consistently checked-in on his kids and grandkids, and even on the tough days of cancer treatment, he told all his family how much he loved them. Known as Rex, Dad, Pops and Papa – he will be greatly missed!

Rex is survived by his wife Pamela K. King; his six children, their spouses and eight grandchildren: Carrie and Tyler Rossman – Marin, Kelty and Rosie; Jerad King; Shelby and Ryan Morse – Jack and Jamie; Kent and Katelyn King – Rudy and Rory; Jared Ross; Christi and Greg Baker – Mara; his sister, Pamela King, and her family; and his brother, Yale King, and his family.
