BOONE - Ruth Cousin, 99, formerly of Alden and Iowa Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 1994 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone due to Heart failure.  She had been a resident of the home since Aug 1. 1977.  Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery.  Rev. Bob Miller will officiate.  Visitation will be Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. at the Easter Star Masonic Home in Boone and from noon until time of service at the United Church of Christ in Alden.

Ruth Cousin was born Aug 25, 1895, in Sexton to William and Emma Johnson Hager.  She graduated from Alden High School, Ellsworth College and received her nursing degree from Illinois Training School for Nursing in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill.  On June 2, 1923 she married Walter Luin Cousin at Burdette.  She was a school nurse in the Iowa Falls school system for 28 years before retiring.  She was a member of the United Church of Christ, PEO, and the Order of Eastern star Prisceilla Chapter No. 216, all in Alden, National Retired Teacher's Association and National Registered Nurses Association.

Survivors include one son, Rich and wife, Doris of Waverly; a daughter Helen Schneider and husband Gar of Alden; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Thora Christiansen of Alden.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1961, and one sister.
