Mark R. Johnson

June 18, 1951 - April 11, 2016

Mark R. Johnson, 64, of Urbandale and formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at his home in Urbandale. Funeral services will be 11:30 am Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines. Visitation will from 10:30 am until service time on Friday at the church. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Mark and his family. 641-648-7700.

Mark Richey Johnson was born on June 18, 1951 to Robert and Marge Johnson. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1969 and attended Ellsworth Community College. On June 17, 1979 he was united in marriage to Kim Johnson at the Highland Country Club in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Mark was self-employed in flooring sales and installation for over 35 years.

Always self motivated and self employed, Mark worked with his father’s furniture and flooring business and he became an expert in all aspects of flooring installation and repair. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and an excellent bow hunter. In past years he was teaching his granddaughter Brooklyn how to shoot a bow. Mark was a practical jokester and everyone around him knew to be on their guard. He was known around the state for his delicious “Sparky’s salsa” which he shared every year with family and friends. Mark will be remembered as a great son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He never said no to anyone that asked for help. He was always generous with his time. Mark was the guy you could always enjoy sitting down and having a beer with.

Mark Johnson is survived by his wife, Kim Johnson of Urbandale, Iowa; daughter, Jamie Johnson of Urbandale, Iowa; son, Jonathan Johnson of Urbandale, Iowa; one granddaughter, Brooklyn Johnson; his parents, Marge and Robert Johnson of Iowa Falls, Iowa and two sisters, Kathy (Mark) Winkler and Elaine (John) Miller. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clara and Buryl Ewing and Harold and Ruby Johnson.
